As part of my commitment to translating scientific expertise into broader societal impact, I participated in the AAI Immunology Capitol Hill visit in 2023, where I met with legislative staff from the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. We discussed the importance of sustained federal investment in biomedical research, advocating for the FY2024 NIH funding level of at least $51 billion and support for ARPA-H. Collaborating closely with Dr. Elizabeth J. Kovacs and my AAI colleagues, I highlighted the critical need for robust funding to advance research, demonstrating how scientists can play an active role in shaping science policy.
Community Outreach & Fundraising
In 2024, I contributed to the UNITE for Bleeding Disorders campaign organized by the Hemophilia Foundation of Northern California. At a community gathering in Walnut Creek, I helped raise awareness and support for research, education, and access to care for individuals affected by hemophilia and related bleeding disorders. These experiences allowed me to combine scientific knowledge with advocacy and communication skills, emphasizing the importance of researchers engaging with both policymakers and patient communities to drive real-world impact.
